H E N R I E T T A L A C K S
Henrietta Lacks was an African-American woman whose cells were taken from her in 1951 as she was being treated for cervical cancer at John Hopkins. She died shortly after but her cells are still alive today. They can be found in laboratories across the globe.
Her cells have been coined “HeLa” cells and are the first immortalized human cell line and one of the most important cell lines in medical research. An immortalized cell line reproduces indefinitely under specific conditions, and the HeLa cell line continues to be a source of invaluable medical data to the present day. HeLa cells were used to create the polio vaccine, in vitro fertilization, space cell research, and so many more medical achievements.
Introducing the Newest Fragrance
Immortal is uniquely special because it is a perfume line created to honor the legendary Henrietta Lacks.
It is made of superior quality ingredients sourced directly from France, and because we used mostly base notes and heart notes, the scent is extremely long-lasting and captivating. Attention-grabbing yet soft and seductive, this fragrance blends the smell of fresh cut florals with notes of amber, musk, patchouli and praline. Henrietta's grandson, Alfred Lacks Carter made sure this fragrance embodied the essence of Henrietta. The fragrance comes packaged in a travel-friendly, yet stylish bottle sourced from Austria. We paid attention to every detail so that you can enjoy your purchase just as much as we enjoyed creating it.
ABOUT THE LACKS FAMILY
Henrietta's family invites the world to support their mission to preserve her legacy by educating future generations on the impact of her phenomenal HeLa cells while promoting health equity and social justice.
Immortal Fragrance is the brainchild of Henrietta’s grandson, Alfred Lacks-Carter, and his business partner/manager, Candice Cunningham. The family wants the world to know who Henrietta is. Wildly inspired by Henrietta's story, Oprah Winfrey created The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (film) which aired on HBO in 2017. Oprah played Deborah Lacks (Alfred’s mother). Alfred was one of the Executive Producers.
